PROGRAM

• Understanding neurodiversity: language, terminology, and what it actually means
• Recognising individual differences: common conditions, strengths, and perspectives that may surprise you
• Putting inclusion into practice: simple strategies for meetings, events, communication, and feedback

Building a research culture that works for every brain does not require a complete overhaul. It requires curiosity about how the people around you work best, language that makes those conversations feel safe, and a willingness to try small things differently. The practices that support neurodivergent researchers strengthen the whole Centre.

The Ecoprecariat: Platform Labour in a Climate-Changed World
Presenter: Luke Munn
In the last decade, the platform economy has surged; at the same time, climate impacts have become increasingly frequent and apparent. We conceptualize the workers at the center as the ecoprecariat, an emerging class which grapples with environmental contingencies on top of economic insecurities.

ADHD, AI, and I: Negotiating Cognitive Ecology in the Age of Generative AI
Presenter: Daniel Binns
An honest account of three years of using AI to manage ADHD, after a lifetime of trying everything else — what helped, what didn’t, and why some thinking needs to stay your own.

Understanding the pros and cons of AI technologies through the lens of people with disability
Presenter: Rebekah Harms
Empirical insights into the views of those with disability on the increasing use of AI for healthcare.

Should AI Scribes Be Regulated as Medical Devices?

This working paper presents findings on the regulation of AI scribes as medical devices in Australia, inviting discussion and feedback.

Automated Feedback Shapes Confidence and Truth Discernment Through Overhypothesis Learning
Presenter: Fletcher Scott
This talk presents findings from two experiments showing that automated feedback environments can change how confident people feel about whether headlines are true, even when the underlying evidence has not changed.

Working Title: GenAI in Health Supports
Presenter: Jiani Chen
The presentation highlights findings from interviews with Chinese immigrants in Sydney and the use of GenAI for wellbeing and health support

This panel draws together work from the ADM+S signature project, the Australian Ad Observatory, bringing into dialogue several case studies from the project. The panel examines how digital promotional cultures are shaping health practices, decisions and subjectivities, attending to the complex and often opaque commercial environments in which consumers navigate health information, products and services online.

The research presentations will address:
– How social media platforms target alcohol advertising to people at-risk of harm (Aimee Brownbill)
– ‘Managing, hacking, personalising and financing your fertility’ (Giselle Newton)
– ‘Health biographies, digital health cultures and health ads’ (Phoebe Price-Barker, Giselle Newton and Madeleine Stirling)
– ‘Looksmaxxing – botox, beauty modification – adjacent to manosphere’ (Kiah Hawker)
– Ads of a feather: Topical ad sequences and their relationship to health (Khanh Luong and Dan Angus)

Together, the papers reflect on the methodological challenges of making digital advertising legible to researchers, regulators and civil society, as well as foregrounding how promotional cultures and infrastructures increasingly mediate health
