David Abkiewicz has spent his public service considering the challenges raised by emerging digital technologies. He joined the ACCC in 2018 to work on the highly influential Digital Platforms Inquiry, and has since led the ACCC’s work on developing Australia’s News Media Bargaining Code, and co-led the 2022 Digital Platform Services Inquiry Regulatory Reform Report, which makes significant recommendations to improve Australia’s digital platform regulation. Before joining the ACCC, David held roles focusing on media and cultural policy at the Department of Finance and the Department of Communications.
